February is like the month of festivals in Italy. Two biggest annual events of Italian culture take place in this month. Carnevale- the Italian nationwide carnival is celebrated all over the nation. And Saint Agatha’s Feast Day, celebrated in Catania is said to be the second largest religious procession of the world. Some other festivals also take place during February in different places of the country.
Carnevale
Carnevale is the most popular festival in Italy, participated and celebrated by the whole nation. The event takes place 40 days before the Easter so the date is not fixed. Sometimes the celebration continues for several weeks. In different parts of Italy Carnevale is celebrated in different ways. However, Venice and Viareggio are two most famous places for Carnevale celebration.
Saint Agatha’s Feast Day
This event is celebrated with a 2-day procession which claimed to be the second largest religious precession all over the world. It begins on February 4 in Catania of Sicily. The event continues for 2 days and 2 nights and like other Italian festivals, this event is also gull of foods, drinks and fireworks.
Almond Blossom Fair
Almond Blossom Fair is a weeklong celebration which starts on the first Sunday of February. An international Folklore Festival is associated within the festival as well. The guests are treated with traditional foods make by almond mostly.
Feast Day of Saints Faustino and Giovita
This day is celebrated on February 15 and it’s one of the biggest festivals in northern Italy. Traditional foods, drinks are served in a music filled environment. The day finishes with beautiful fireworks.
