If you are planning a trip to Italy, you have undoubtedly heard of the reputation Italian drivers have earned for being wild on the road. While there is some truth to this reputation, this does not mean that renting a car in Italy is a bad idea. In fact, renting a car can be the most efficient way to get around Italy and see all the sights you have been reading about in books for so many years.

Since I rented a car when I visited Italy, I thought I would give you a few tips to ensure your Italy car rental experience goes smoothly. My first tip is to rent from a well known European company like Europcar. Renting from a well known company will ensure that you don’t run into any unexpected problems with things like service or communication.

My second tip for Italy car rental is to use a GPS. If you have a GPS (or a device with a GPS that will work in Italy, such as a global cellphone), bring it with you. If not, most major rental companies will rent you a GPS or a car that is equipped with a GPS. It will cost a little extra, but the price is well worth the time it will save you by keeping you from getting lost!
